Duck Commander 500 Preview

Nascar only has one venue in Texas that it races at, but it’s a fast one. Twice a year Nascar races at Texas Motor Speedway, and twice a year some driver comes away with a trophy, a cowboy hat, and a pair of six-shooters.

Over the past several years, Jimmie Johnson has become Texas’ master. He has won 5 of the last seven races here, including the last three. However, every streak ends eventually, and I think it ends this weekend.

Many drivers have run very well at Texas as of late. Last year Brad Keslowski lead 312 of 334 laps in the Fall race, but Johnson out dueled him in the end. Both Keslowski and teammate Joey Logano suffered heartbreaking moments here last Fall, and both would love to come back with a vengeance. But I don’t see that happening.

Stewart-Hass Racing seems to have a better shot at getting a driver to victory lane than Penske. Both Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick have shown significant speed at 1.5 mile tracks in recent times, but Harvick has yet to claim a victory at Texas. And Brian Vickers, who is substituting for the injured Tony Stewart, has been fast the past couple weeks. It would be crazy if he shocked crowds by winning. Danica Patrick has had a rough history at Texas, but she is coming off a solid run at Martinsville, so she may find herself in the top-fifteen.

On team that’s been on fire as of late is Austin Dillon and his no. 3 group. Him and his cowboy hat have been running well this year, and Texas is the perfect place to get a first win.

But I don’t think any of the drivers I have previously stated will win. I believe rookie Chase Elliot is the man to beat. Granted, that sounds crazy. And yes, he had a bad race last weekend. But he has been driving like a veteran this year, especially at intermediate tracks. Also, in his rookie year in the Xfinity series, this is were he won his first race. And the two drivers he out ran for the win were the past two Sprint Cup Champions: Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick. You can see why I think he gets his first win this weekend. So ladies and gentlemen, buckle your seat belts, we’re going racing: Texas style!
