When people think of races fans look forward to, the August night race at Bristol ranks among the highest. It’s 500 laps of driving around a 0.533 mile track. With 43 cars on the track. That requires amazing skill. And endurance. And due to the tight racing, it may pay off to attend an anger management class ahead of time.
Last year Joey Logano won this race, and he has been fast at almost every track as of late. However, if you look at his latest finish at Bristol, he seems less impressive. Earlier this year him and teammate Brad Keslowski wrecked each other just twenty laps into the race. Yikes.
Joe Gibbs racing is undoubtedly the best team as of late. And their Bristol stats are pretty impressive. Every Joe Gibbs driver has won at least once at Bristol. Kyle Busch ties for the lead in wins among active drivers with 5. Matt Kenseth won here earlier this year. And both Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin have wins here in the past. That is pretty good.
However, remember how I said Kyle was tied among the active win leaders at Bristol? Well, his older brother Kurt is the one who tied him. And Kurt had lots of speed here earlier this year. And he is not alone. This is the one track where the Stewart-Hass teammates, Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Danica Patrick, and Kurt, all excel.
Normally Hendrick Motorsports is a team that everyone talks about. Well, they are being talked about, but not about success. About how poorly they have run. Hendrick has lost speed as of late, and all the drivers are paying the price for it. In fact, right now, it is possible that both Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne may miss the Chase. Yikes. They need something good to happen at Bristol.
Bristol seems to be the last chance that Roush-Fenway Racing has to make the Chase. This is the final track any of them has had any success at, but it still seems unlikely they will win.
One team I wouldn’t bet against is Chip Ganassi Racing. Last year Jamie McMurray led about a 100 laps in this race and finished in the top-ten. Could him or teammate Kyle Larson win this weekend? It is possible.
One last team to mention is Richard Childress Racing. Out of nowhere, they seem to have speed. Right now Ryan Newman and Paul Menard are in the Chase, though rather insecurely. That leaves teammate Austin Dillon. Last weekend he nearly got his first win at Michigan, so that is a good sign. After all, if you win you get into the Chase.
That said, who seems like they will win this weekend? Well I can narrow it down to four drivers. First, the Busch brothers. Combined, they have ten wins at Bristol. The other two are Kurt’s teammates, Tony Stewart and Danica Patrick. Both have run very well at Bristol in recent races, and both are looking for a win to get into the Chase. I think one of these four will win.
