When it comes to Michigan, speed is the word you hear. A couple of years ago drivers were toping 210 miles per hour. That’s fast. However, Nascar is giving drivers a new package to deal with this weekend, so it is not unlikely that speeds may be reduced.
Earlier this year the race was shortened by rain, so it is hard to determine who has the best chance this weekend. However, the best bet seems to be the Joe Gibbs Racing drivers. All four, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, and Carl Edwards, have been lightning fast as of late. However, Busch is the unrivaled champ right now.
However, he may have to deal with his brother to win. Kurt Busch was the winner here earlier this year. And don’t rule out his teammates. Kevin Harvick is lightning fast at tracks like Michigan, and Tony Stewart seems to have been gaining speed as of late. And while Danica Patrick isn’t doing amazing right now she is still running in the top-twenty, top-fifteen area. Right in the position to capitalize on a rain shortened race.
Normally Hendrick Motorsports is a good team to mention but they haven’t had much speed lately. However, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was second in this race earlier this year, so he could challenge for the win.
Roush-Fenway Racing used to be the unrivaled rulers of Michigan, but they have been insanely slow this year. This is their best chance at getting a driver in the fast approaching Chase.
Earlier this year, with rain in the forecast, Kyle Larson gambled on fuel to try to be in the lead when the rain came. Sadly, he had to pit for fuel, and three laps later the race was ended by rain. Ouch. Can he avenge himself? Possibly. With teammate Jamie McMurray in the Chase as of now, he truly wants to get in with him.
That said, who’s the prime candidate for the victory? Kyle Busch. With his unbelievable speed as of late, he undoubtedly is the favorite. However, Kyle Larson and Kevin Harvick seem like good picks to. Harvick is just plain fast, and Larson would love to claim his first win and make the Chase. Let’s see who will win.
