Should There Be Changes To The Sprint Cup Schedule?

For years fans have had complaints about the Sprint Cup schedule, and now even the drivers have begun to make comments about it. Nascar has made many minor tweaks to the schedule, but nothing big. Another thing is, should the schedule even have some of the tracks that it has? Let’s discuss it, shall we?

First off, Nascar undoubtedly knows that there are many people who aren’t pleased with the current line-up of tracks. How could they not? Letters are written, comments made. Even Kevin Harvick, last year’s champion, has said that change is needed. But why hasn’t Nascar taken action? Honestly, no one knows.

Next off, should the schedule have some of the tracks it has? There are several tracks I wouldn’t hate to see disappear. Las Vegas, Texas, Kansas, and Charlotte are a few of these. They are all mile and a half tracks with no excitement. The racing is just plain boring. And even worse, all these tracks but Vegas have two races each year. Why can’t more exciting track like Sonoma or Darlington get a second race? Again, I don’t know. It may have something to do with money. Doesn’t everything these days?

Another problem is the timing of races. Last year the Coke Zero 400 was delayed by rain, again. It was normally on a Saturday night, but now it is on a Sunday night. Anyone else think Nascar just shot themselves in the foot? Why on Earth move it to Sunday night!? That just makes it so that if the race is delayed less fans will see it. And this year the Spring Bristol race was moved from March to April, in hopes of avoiding rain. Guess what? It rained. “April showers bring May flowers”. So much for that idea.

Another fact is, there are several tracks in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series that are very capable of hosting a Cup race, but instead they give us Charlotte. Really? Can’t they give us a good track?  The only track that seems to be being considered is Eldora Speedway. That dirt track would be quite a Sprint Cup showdown. But is Nascar going to start making some changes? Well, so far no. But we live in hope.

One last complaint of fans I think I should mention is the number of road course races in the schedule. For years fans have wanted to see more races at Watkins Glen and Sonoma. And lets not forget the numerous other road courses in the Truck and Xfinity Series. Again, Nascar hasn’t done anything about this.

Will Nascar ever do anything about these numerous complaints. Well, they may be trying. Like I said, there have been some minor tweaks over the past couple years. But what the fans really want is a major change. We live in hope that there may one day be some big changes.
